I read this book a while ago but wasn’t too impressed with the content, I didn’t feel it applied to women outside the US, or maybe it didn’t apply to me. A while after reading it, I found the stories in the book popping up in my mind in certain situations, where they felt similar to the incidents Sheryl Sandberg discusses.
Basically the book talks about how women sabotage their chances of moving forward or getting better opportunities because they “hold back”. I started noticing that I sometimes hold back when it comes to family situations, or when dealing with contractors for my home, feeling weird about asking for adjustments that work better for me, rather than the other person. It definitely made me think twice about how I handle negotiations.
I would recommend this book to women in the workplace, if it doesn’t add value at work it would certainly make you more open to asking for better options. I bought my book from Amazon.com, I’m not sure if you can find it in Kuwait.
