My latest obsession has been to de-clutter my home, first I got someone to help me with my biggest task, organizing my storage room! I intended to do that for the past 6 months, but every time I go in and see the extent of the clutter, I feel unmotivated and leave. It’s a good idea to hire help if you can’t seem to do it by yourself.
Once that was done, I was fired up and ready to tackle the other rooms by myself, first one, my closet! Any old clothes had to go out, donated to the refugees in Syria. My shoes I gave to my house helpers who asked me if they could have them instead of donating them. My bags were another story.
Most bags I forget that I have, because I pack them in their garment bags and I cant see them clearly. Some lost their shape because of the way I was storing them to make more space. So what I did was take them out, stuff them with paper so they don’t lose shape, and displayed them nicely. I used newspapers and their dust bags, no need to go buy any fancy fillers.
At this point I had to make a decision regarding the bags I don’t use, or haven’t used at all (mainly bags I got as gifts). I found a great business that would take these bags and sell tem for me, 50% of the money would get back to me, and 50% they would donate to a charity. It was great to be able to receive as well as give, and the money I am getting from them is helping me pay for other renovation projects I am doing at home. Don’t be shy about getting something back.
I am finding the new layout of my closet is making me wear new stuff (rather than the same jeans and handful of tops I rotate in!), and it seems I went shopping J
The best of all, with all the clutter that is going out, my home feels refreshed and I am enjoying being home.
