Again, thanks to my research, I haven’t heard of Al-Ain Zoo previously, and it looked like a great place online. It was a bit confusing for us to get there, as I thought it was in Abu Dhabi (where Ferrari World is) but its in Al-Ain, in the state of Abu Dhabi. We budgeted for a 1 hour drive but ended up needing 2 hours, so keep that in mind if you are planning to go there.
The Zoo is beautiful, very well maintained and the animals actually looked happy, not bored and lethargic! There was a variety of animals in different species; in one area; there was a striped hyena, and in another a spotted hyena. It was nice to show the kids that there could be the same animal in different countries that have different characteristics.
The layout of the Zoo was interesting, animals were separated according to the continent they come from, and I loved the African wildlife area as all the animals were left to graze together, exactly as they would have in the wild.
The kids loved feeding the giraffe’s! Hamad freaked out a bit when he saw their long tongue, but it was fun to stand next to a tall giraffe and see how big they really are.
There were smaller indoor area’s for nocturnal animals (didn’t see that before), and the reptile section. It was too dark for pictures 🙂
Towards the end we were lucky to catch the bird show, it was a beautiful display of the different birds found in the UAE while a trainer interacts with them.
