On my quest to seeking salubrity, I have tried many alternative modalities, Reiki is one of them…
What is it?
To my understanding, Reiki is a healing modality that aims to move stagnant energy in the body in order to promote wellbeing. Your chi, which is your energy, is stuck do to numerous reasons, shock, trauma, repressing feelings, bad posture, and many more. The International Training Center for Reiki Training describes it as follows on their website:
“Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by “laying on hands” and is based on the idea that an unseen “life force energy” flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one’s “life force energy” is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.”
Where did I do it?
I have done it in numerous places with different people, but the guy I stuck with is Amir Mohsin, who I met 10 years ago and continue to go to him.
How was the experience?
It’s an experience you have to experience to fully understand! Lol! Basically the first time you do it you will need to sit with your practitioner and explain what your issues are, then they will lay you down on a table and check your body (there is no touching in the process, just feeling of the body’s vibration). Once the practitioner establishes areas to work on, he goes ahead with it. The whole time you will relax, close your eyes, and enjoy the energy rush. Yes, you can feel your energy moving around, it’s like some tingling and goose bumps you feel moving up or down.
This sensation is not “fake”, at one point I felt the energy move upwards and get “stuck” around my throat area. Two minutes later with some work and out of the blue I started crying, to this day I don’t know why. After the wave of energy left me via tears, I felt a sense of calm. Ever since I was hooked. Did I get the same intense emotions again? The more you work the less frequent they become, but after all these years if I hit another wave it’s usually very intense and shorter, but to me that’s something I was hiding deeper.
Was it worth it?
To me, yes. Reiki has gotten me through many hard times in my life. Was it placebo? I really don’t care, if it was then it worked something out for me and I am grateful, but I am confident it’s not.
I had more regular Reiki sessions in the beginning, but with the years I have become aware of when I need another session and schedule it on that basis.
Cost?
This varies, I recommend if you are starting out to try a session before you commit, and if you decide you like it, go for a package in the beginning, and once you’ve dealt with most of your “issues”, go for maintenance sessions. How will you know when to move on to maintenance? For me it was always based on my gut feeling, I just knew I didn’t need another session, just like I know now when I need to go get on.
One session 40 KD
